Comfortable and necessary dental procedure.
Our main goal is to help you keep your natural teeth whenever possible. However, there are situations where a tooth may not be able to be saved. It is important to talk to your dentist about any concerns you have, even if it's just a minor toothache.
While the idea of tooth extraction may seem scary, modern dentistry techniques make the process comfortable and pain-free with the use of numbing gels or sedation. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during a tooth extraction.
Whether your tooth is at risk of extraction or you need wisdom teeth removal, our dentist can connect you with a specialist who can meet your needs.
Why are tooth extractions necessary?
Extractions are usually seen as a final option to preserve a tooth. Some teeth can have a detrimental effect on oral health, making it essential to remove them before they cause issues such as shifting, infection, or damage to the mouth. Various factors may necessitate or result in an extraction, including:
- Wisdom teeth causing issues
- Teeth with severe damage
- Cracked or broken teeth below the gum line
- Difficult-to-extract baby teeth
- Looking to avoid future procedures
Which individuals are qualified for tooth extractions?
We assess the need for extraction by performing an examination to determine if it is necessary. In many cases, it is advised for patients to undergo the procedure to avoid complications such as infections or abscesses. X-rays are used to accurately evaluate the necessity of extraction.
What happens during a tooth extraction?
In your consultation, we will talk about various sedation choices depending on your preference. After you are at ease, we will carefully remove the tooth. If needed, we may stitch the gums and use gauze to manage any bleeding. Following sedation, you will be brought to a recovery area until fully alert. If general sedation was administered, it is crucial to have someone escort you home. You will receive detailed instructions for aftercare to follow.
